Antoine Boulad was born in Beirut in 1951. Between 1971 and 1980, he lived most of the time in Paris but his « shoes of wind » made him visit all the Mediterranean countries. Author of Les brindilles de la mémoire , published in 1990 by l'Harmattan, and Le Passeur , published in a bilingual edition at Saqi Books, Antoine Boulad is one of the most distinguished poets of his generation. Currently, he is director of French Studies and cultural activities at the International College. He is one of the founding members of an association which established the first public library in Beirut. He is in charge of the poetry page in l'Orient Littéraire.
« Journal de la guerre »
The piece on display is an excerpt of an ensemble of thirty three texts that make up the journal that I kept during the war. One poem, each day. But is that really poetry? Is it a day?
33 is a number that appears in my life like magic, but that is another story not to be told here.
