In March 8, 2006, the International
Museum of Women will launch a four month project called Imagining
Ourselves, an interactive, online exhibit featuring the voices,
stories and artistic expressions of young women in their 20's and
30's from around the world. Each month features different themes
and discussions. The month of March will focus on Love - personal
relationships in a changing world. April is Money and economic empowerment
for young women. May is Culture and Conflict and focuses on uniting
women across boundaries, and June is about the Future and Taking
Action. Everyone is invited to join the conversation!

xanadu* beirut will be hosting verious events begining with a xanadu*
night gathering of women, for women, on March
the 8th 2006 in celebration of the international women's day.
The event will be held indoors at featured artist in the IMOW book
"Imagining Ourselves- Global Voices From A New Generation Of
Women", and director of xanadu* Zena el- Khalil's home in Beirut.
It will be a night where women come together for coffee, and coffee
cup readings, for henna art, and belly dancing. All of which will
be documented on both the xanadu* website and IMOW
space.
The second event hosted by xanadu* beirut is entitled "Empowering
Women Through Art", and will be held at the Bourj al Barajneh
Palestinian Refugee Camp. This event which is co-sponsered by
INMA organization, will run from 02/21/06 until 05/21/06, and
is an open invite for all. The event shall feature artists leading
a workshop directed towards women of the refugee camp. Through the
use of materials found in the camp environment, artisan crafts will
be produced, exhibited, and sold by the women. We hope that you
will join us during this event!
The third event being held is a solo art exhibit of Zena
el-Khalil's work concerning issues of conflict and culture surrounding
the history of the 30 year Lebanese Civil War. The Exhibit includes
sculptures, installations, and paintings. It will be held at Escapce
SD Art Gallery, Dagher Building, Avenue Charles Helou in Gemmayzeh.
The opening night will be on May 4, 2006 at 6pm, and will continue
throughout the month of May.
The fourth and final event that xanadu*, in collaboration with
the International Museum Of Women,
will be hosting is a group art exhibit featuring a number of Lebanese
women artists in their 20's and 30's. Lebanon will have never seen
anything like it! These young artists some residents in their home
country, and others flying in from places as far away as Canada
and Barcelona, will be here to provide the Lebanese public with
a glance into their thoughts on "The Future". Mediums
of art range from sculpture, to photography, painting, and mixed
media. This event will be held at the Art Lounge in Dora, and will
bring together these fascinating women and their art work under
one roof.
